This pilot project (Marconi et al, 1999) was designed with the main objective of finding sustainable alternatives based on ecotourism development, focusing on the lowest and most threatened altitudinal vegetation type of the Yungas: the Transitional Forest.

The various stages of the project were conducted by the professional team of the National Parks Northwest Regional office, park rangers at El Rey Nat. Park, members of the Association of Alternative Tourism Operators (ADOPTAS), employees of the Salta Government Tourism Bureau and the landowners involved with El Rey Reserve Project.

The Project has been possible thanks to funding from the Global Environmental Facility UNEP-OEA as a part of the Strategy Action Plan for the development of the Bermejo River basin (PEA).
